People think of self defence as fighting, but in actual fact fighting is only a small part of self defence. Self defence begins with awareness of potentially bad situations and includes things like crossing the street to avoid alleyways or groups of people who might cause trouble. It includes leaving a bar or nightclub at the first hint of trouble and it includes de-escalation techniques.
When all else fails and violence ensues you must be aware that the law only allows you to use reasonable force to defend your person or your property and if your actions are deemed to be excessive force you can find yourself in court facing serious charges of assault or worse.
